Christiane Druml was born in Vienna and studied law at the University of Vienna. She is holding the UNESCO Chair on Bioethics at the Medical University of Vienna and also serves as Director of the Collections and History of Medicine of the Medical University of Vienna. 2007 she has been appointed President of the Austrian National Bioethics Commission. Furthermore she is a member of the Medical Council of the Republic of Austria and of the scientific council of the Agence nationale de sécurité du
medicament et des produits de la santé (ANSM) France.

From 2011 to 2015 she was Vice-Rector for Clinical Affairs at the Vienna Medical University Before that she has been managing director of the Ethics Committee at the Vienna Medical University (1992-2011). Christiane Druml was Member of the International Bioethics Committee IBC of UNESCO from 2008 to 2015.
